Lake Anna saw a lot of new developments over the past year, including the Lake Anna Island Shops (pictured above) and the New Bridge Landing Shopping Center.
There were remarkable changes in our Lake Anna landscape over the past year. The most notable was the emergence of major grocery chain Food Lion opening its first store at Lake Anna in January. Eager consumers started lining up the morning of the grand opening more than two hours before the doors officially opened for the first time. The anchor of the New Bridge Landing shopping center on Route 208, was quickly joined by The Big Cheese Pizza, Chef Lee Chinese Restaurant, national chain Subway, The Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital, and Kara Nails. Business has been booming for the occupants of the new center and, at press time, all spots have been filled.
Later this year, Dockside Realty will also occupy one of the stores in the center as the new headquarters for their rental department. This location will be in addition to their main lakeside office. This will be an exciting development for the team and will be sure to increase visibility for the company, which was purchased this year by Dave Moberly, longtime Dockside Realty agent. He and his wife Terri have been mainstays at the business for many years.
Also coming later this year, one of Lake Anna’s first businesses, Dickinson’s Store, located at the intersection of Routes 652 & 208 are adding on to their general store. In addition to serving hot food, lake souvenirs, fishing supplies, and general merchandise, the bustling convenience store will now house a full-sized beer cave. Dickinson’s will be able to offer a more complete selection of beers, sure to please any of the most finicky beer enthusiasts.
The town of Mineral also saw some new faces in the business community. Dollar General opened a store in town and a full service bakery, Sweet Delights, also held its grand opening this spring.
One of Louisa’s most popular spots, Solid Grounds Coffee House, opened a second location in the Spotsylvania Courthouse Village , near the Spotsylvania County offices. Louisa’s Obrigado Restaurant also expanded to include a full pie shop, Floozie’s in the town of Louisa, as well.
As 2010 came to a close, the doors finally opened at the Lake Anna Island Shops. The building was quickly filled with new eateries (Ally’s on the Lake, Asian Cafe, and Island Mochas Coffee Shop), local businesses (Northern Virginia Title & Escrow, Arc-Tek Homes, Lake Anna Yacht Club), Chameleon & Co. – a full service hair salon, and Fisher’s Fitness, a 24-hour fitness center. Plans are underway for further development of the plaza, which should only increase the interest in the area.
Looking forward, there are new developments slated to open soon, including The Boardwalk Shops on Route 522 and the Cutalong Golf Course, which has seen much progress as of late.
As a full time Lake Anna resident or visitor, this growth is extremely exciting and a welcome change to area.
