Beauty and Joy at Lake Anna State Park
You know you want to go to Lake Anna, but you’re not sure where to go. There are a lot of options. Local hotels, house rentals and camping are the most popular choices. But there is a place where you can get the best of all of these in one place. Lake Anna State Park is a lovely, natural location, smack dab in the middle of one of the most beautiful areas in Virginia. With the amenities of a hotel or a home, but the rustic vistas and activities of a camping excursion. The fun programs, comfortable amenities and beautiful lakeshore beach will make Lake Anna State Park a place your family will want to visit year after year.
The location of Lake Anna State Park is actually an old gold mining region containing the Goodwin Gold Mine. The area was once known as “Gold Hill.” But by the 1940’s, the gold was depleted. The lake itself wasn’t formed until 1971, when a dam was built on the North Anna River. The lake serves as a water coolant for Dominion Powers nuclear plant. But don’t let that scare you, it has quickly become a go-to spot for vacationers in and around central Virginia, drawing people far and wide. About ten years after the lake was created, Lake Anna State Park was established.
The state park is open from dawn to dusk, unless you are staying on site in one of the park’s beautiful cabins or campsites. The fee to enter is per car, and costs only $4. Depending on what you want to do while visiting, there may be extra costs. And there is a lot to do at Lake Anna State Park!
